I did a lot of research before buying a sewing machine, here are few good models you would like to have a look:

Basic Range:

Singer Tradition 2250NT

Middle Range:

They have some very good features and are best for their price. I chose singer simply because I used it earlier and found it quite good. You can buy sewing machine foots (see below image) for interlocking, hemming, cording, embroidery, quilting etc.
